God’s Attributes: Justice (I Samuel 2:3)

The Lord is a God of knowledge, and with Him actions are weighed” (I Sam. 2:3).

What does God know and what does He do with what He knows?  Repairing to Scripture enables you to capture what God says about His knowledge:

  • God is greater than our heart, and knows all things (I Jn. 3:20).
  • There is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do (Heb. 4:13).

Christianity is more than a name (Rev. 3:1).  It is a lifestyle revealing to the world a congregation of people living as though they believe with all their hearts that God knows all things and He intends to bring good into the lives of His people.  The Christian is a man maturing in his trust of Christ so he can discern a temptation as a temptation, and an encumbrance as an encumbrance.  Though he may be attracted to the temptation and the encumbrance, he truly prefers, with his whole heart, what is of eternal worth.

Does the God who knows all things weigh all actions?  A god who does not have any divine attributes other than love does not weigh actions.  Surely he cannot for if he did weigh all actions that would mean he sits as judge and will punish those whose actions are outside his will. Scores of churchmen say their god is a god of love, but they lie because they do not trust that god who is all love and their distrust is manifested by their very lives.

Even Christians manufacture their own make-believe god who only slightly resembles the God of the Bible.  Christians fabricate an unbiblical god because they remain unaware of their own depravity.  God says, “All the ways of a man are clean in his own sight, but the Lord weighs the motives” (Prov. 16:2).

Remember Jesus’ admonition: “Every careless word that men shall speak, they shall render account for it in the day of judgment” (Mt. 12:36).  The words of your mouth and the meditations of your heart should be acceptable in God’s sight if He is your Rock and your Redeemer (Ps. 19:14).  Are your words guarded in Christ or do you think God lacks knowledge of the words coming from your mouth?

God is awesome in power and swift with His mighty sword.  God says, “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done” (Rev. 22:12).  Do you believe that God knows all things and “He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished?” (Ex. 34:7).

If you trust in the God of the Bible, you will look for preachers, teachers and friends who will not quail from challenging your walk with the Lord.  You will pray that your sin not be hidden or covered in fig leaves, but be stopped.  You will petition the Supreme Court of the Universe to reveal Their righteousness, holiness and splendor.  You will praise God for the grace you have received while yet petitioning Him for more of His precious grace.  You will no longer be casual about your worship of your glorious God and you will revere His holy majesty.
